Lauren Spavelko

I create emotionally resonant musical experiences that connect artists, audiences, students, and communities through storytelling, collaboration, and contemporary music.

My work often grows through partnerships with orchestras, performers, filmmakers, photographers, choreographers, educators, and young musicians. Together, we can create concerts that invite audiences into vivid artistic worlds while building meaningful connections beyond the stage.

Kéyah

Orchestra & Live Projection

lp 2.jpg

A cinematic musical journey in collaboration with National Eminent Photographer Frank Lee Ruggles, celebrating the majesty of America's natural landscapes.

Ruggles's 2-part film can be screened simultaneously with live orchestra.

Jennifer Jolley's "Blue Glacier Decoy" was adapted for Part 1 (Monochrome).

"Kéyah" was commissioned for Part 2 (Spectrum).

Both parts work together or independently.

Baby Book

Song Cycle, Film, & Dance

lp 1.jpg

A powerful exploration of miscarriage, pregnancy, & early motherhood.

This award-winning song cycle has connected communities of women and artists around the country and inspired collaborations with filmmakers and choreographers to bring the story to life.

The Baby Book films can be shown alone or screened simultaneously with live performance. These films further heighten the intimacy and emotional impact of the story.

Multi-Level Works &

Guided Composition Activities

lp 3.jpg

Multi-level works and guided composition experiences designed to connect students, professionals, and communities through collaborative music-making.

Multi-level works are designed to be flexible and invite younger and more advanced players to collaborate. The pieces can be performed in multiple configurations.

I can also design experiences for students to participate in the composing process. In "La Gruta: The Bat Cave" I created guided composition worksheets for the students to create their own "bat themes" to be curated for the final work. The activity can now be done alongside the final work for future performances and continued educational enrichment.

If you're interested in commissioning a new work, planning a residency, or exploring a creative partnership, I'd love to hear from you!
